Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Mix thoroughly:

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together & stir in:

2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

Roll into small balls and press down with a glass dipped in water and colored sugar for a festive, holiday look.

Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes.

This is an old family favorite always included on the Bendixens' holiday cookie tray.
